The North Central and West Lafayette campuses at Purdue University in the USA, announced that they will be implementing an “Easy Loan” program for students needing financial assistance in their education. It was said that the program is now open for the next school year, however the students can start applying now.The common fear was that student’s would be forced into forsaking their educations due to a lack of available funding. Because of recent Federal subsidy reductions and the National Credit’s market volatility, many lenders who have been participating in the FFELP program have quit offering borrower discounts. Additionally, some have even discontinued the program altogether leaving many students wondering how they will be able to afford finishing their educations. As a result, a number of universities are stepping to the forefront and offering their own easy loan programs so students can achieve what they set out to do by enrolling namely, get their higher learning degrees. With the Direct Loan Program in the USA, the US Government acts as the lender, and provides the funds for PLUS and Stafford loans. The borrowing goes directly through the US Government, therefore they are not expecting to feel any impact relative to the credit market’s recent turmoil. The Direct Loan Program was implemented in 1994, and will afford Purdue students more desirable terms on their student loans.
